Company dorm fire leaves 11 dead in Jinan

JINAN - Eleven workers were killed and 10 others were injured in a fire that broke out Thursday morning in a seafood company in the coastal city of Qingdao, east China's Shandong Province.

The injured were hospitalized. "Doctors said they were slightly injured and were all out of danger," said an official with the city's fire control department, who asked for anonymity.

The fire occurred at around 1:40 a.m. at the dormitory building of the Qingdao Jiayuan Michael Food Co., Ltd. at the Chengyang District.

More than 80 fire fighters and 10 fire engines rushed to the site and spent less than one hour to put out the fire. It is not clear how many workers were in the dormitories when the accident happened, said the official.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Established in 1998, the Jiayuan Michael Food Co,. Ltd is a Sino-US joint adventure producing frozen fishes.
