GUANGZHOU - Two workers died and three others were injured in a chemical plant fire in south China's Guangdong Province on Tuesday.

The fire started at about 9:30 a.m. at a workshop in Xinbang Forestry Chemical Industry Co. Ltd. in Luoding City, said a spokesman with the city government's information office.

It took firefighters more than two hours to quell the fire, which spread across about 600 square meters, the spokesman said.

The injured workers, who were being treated at a hospital in Luoding, were described as stable, he said.

"The fire cause no environmental pollution and no ill affects for neighboring residents," he said.

Local work safety, public security and fire prevention officials were investigating the cause of the fire, he added.

Xinbang produced no highly toxic or dangerous chemical products, he said. It mainly supplied natural turpentine and resin compounds.

Located in the countryside of Luoding City, the company covers 10,000 square meters and employs more than 50 people, according to its homepage on the Alibaba.com, China's leading e-commerce company.
