GENEVA -- Switzerland attaches high importance to the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai and will use the event to fully present the country's image, organizers for the Swiss participation said on Monday.

"The Shanghai exhibition is a platform of key importance for Switzerland," said Johannes Matyassy, head of Presence Switzerland, which promotes the country abroad.

Apart from the official Swiss pavilion, there will be a separate exhibition staged by Swiss cities of Basel, Geneva and Zurich devoted to water and sustainable solutions, Matyassy was quoted as saying by the official Swissinfo news website.

This separate pavilion will complement the official one, which has been developing a project with the theme "Interaction between urban and rural areas," Matyassy said.

He added that the two pavilions "will create synergies and profile the country in all its diversity."

The World Exhibition in Shanghai will begin on May 1, 2010 and last 184 days. It is expected to attract 70 million visitors, organizers said.
