GUIYANG -- A boat capsized in southwest China's Guizhou Province when carrying people on their way back from a wedding ceremony, leaving at least eight missing, confirmed local authorities on Thursday.

The accident happened at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, when the fishing boat made by people from the Benjie village of Puding county, Anshun city capsized in the Yelang lake, said an official with the Guizhou provincial administration of work safety.

Those on the boat were all local villagers on their way back home after attending a wedding ceremony in a neighboring village. Some witnesses said eight were missing, but rescuers are still trying to confirm the exact number of people on board.

No survivor was found yet.

The Yelang lake, a man-made lake that covers 21 square kilometers, is a famous scenic site in Guizhou.
