Two police killed in Xinjiang attack

URUMQI - Two police staff were killed and five were injured in a knife attack on Wednesday as they were investigating a previous case in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The police in Jiashi County, Kashi Prefecture were attacked at 9:20 p.m. when they were passing by a corn field in Kizilboyi Town. The attackers, hidden in the crops, stabbed the police from behind, a spokesman of the regional public security department said.

One police officer and a police assistant died, and five others were injured.

The injured were hospitalized.

Police are investigating the attack.
