HANGZHOU -- Two people died and five others were severely injured after the bus on which they were traveling overturned on a highway in east China's Zhejiang Province on Monday.

The accident occurred at about 1:58 p.m. when the driver of the bus, carrying 40 passengers, attempted to move away from a sedan that was too close about 47 km west of the provincial capital of Hangzhou on the Hangzhou-Quzhou highway, said police.

Two passengers were killed and many other people including the driver were injured -- five of them seriously -- when the bus hit a fence and overturned.

All the injured were taken to a nearby hospital. The bus is permitted to transport 47 passengers. The police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
