ZHENGZHOU -- A total of four children were drowned when they swam in a river in central China's Henan Province, local government said.

The four children, all boys aged from 8 to 12 in Taizhuang Village, were reported missing on Monday night, the Xinye County government said.

Local policemen found their bicycles, clothing and shoes by the Baihe River at 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Two hours later, their bodies were pulled out of the river.

Local government has ordered primary and middle schools to improve safety education for pupils during the summer holidays.
