Coal mine cave-in traps 9 miners in NW China province

XI'AN -- Nine miners remained trapped after a massive cave-in at a colliery in northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Thursday  and efforts to save them were continuing, said rescuers on Friday.

The cave-in occurred at 3:00 p.m. in the Zhaojialiang Coal Mine in Shenmu County, when 38 workers were underground, according to the provincial coal mine production safety regulator.

Twenty-nine miners were confirmed to have escaped.
