KUNMING  -- A man allegedly killed one passerby and injured another nine in a fury after failing to find the person who stole his earnings and substituted them with false bank notes, said the Public Security Bureau of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The incident occurred at 9:30 p.m. Monday in the Shuangqiao Garden Plaza in Wenshan county, when a migrant worker who had returned to his home town is alleged to have stabbed a woman passerby with a knife. He then ran away and stabbed nine more passersby.

One person was dead and nine were injured, though none were in life-threatening conditions. Five are in hospital undergoing treatment. The man was seized by the police 300 meters away from the incident.

Preliminary interrogation showed that the suspect found that all his 2,600 yuan (about 371 US dollars) savings had been swapped for fake money after he had sex with a prostitute.

The suspect turned to a local police station for help, but was too furious to wait for an investigation, police said. He bought a knife with all the 3 yuan left with him, and tried to find the person who stole all his money.

The suspect was detained, further investigation is underway.
