Eleven chickens kept by a farmer in a village in Hunchun, Jilin province, were killed by a bird of prey.

Liu Xiangguo, the farmer, was only aware of what had happened the next morning when he went to feed his chickens. With the help of family members, he caught the bird and sent it to a local natural reserve for identification.

The bird turned out to be an eagle owl, a protected species. Liu agreed that the bird should be set free.
