SHENZHEN: Liu Yupu, deputy secretary of the Guangdong provincial Party committee, assumed the post of secretary of the municipal Party committee of Shenzhen on Wednesday.
He was also nominated to be director of the standing committee of the city's people's congress. He fills the position left vacant for a month after Li Hongzhong, former Party secretary of Shenzhen, was relocated to Hubei Province to become its acting provincial governor.
Liu retains his position as deputy secretary of the Guangdong provincial Party committee.
Hu Zejun, director of the provincial organization department, said: "Liu has been a provincial leader for a long time and he has rich experience in the administration of economic work.
"He is the right candidate for the position."
Born in the city of Tai'an, Shandong Province, in 1949, Liu joined the Communist Party in 1971. He worked in Shaanxi Province as an assistant to the provincial governor and director of the provincial planning commission before becoming a member of the standing committee of the provincial Party committee and director of Shaanxi's organization department. He was assigned to Guangdong Province in 2000.
He served as member of the standing committee of the provincial Party committee, director of the provincial organization department, deputy secretary of the provincial Party committee, principal of the provincial Party school, and director of the provincial politics and law committee.
Two new vice-governors of the central bank were also appointed on Wednesday, Caijing reported on its website.
Ma Delun Yi Gang
Ma Delun, a former assistant governor of the bank, replaces Xiang Junbo who was named head of the State-owned Agricultural Bank of China in June.
Yi Gang, another assistant governor, was also promoted to vice-governor, filling the position left by Wu Xiaoling, who retired.
