20th opening anniversary of Tian'anmen Rostrum

People go to visit the Tian'anmen Rostrum and the Forbidden City after watching the flag raising ceremony on the Tian'anmen Square in Beijing, capital of China, Jan. 1, 2008. Tian'anmen Rostrum, which is above the gates connecting Tian'anmen Square and the Forbidden City, has hosted more than 40 million domestic and foreign tourists in the past 20 years. The rostrum, built in 1417, was opened to the public for the first time on Jan. 1, 1988. The rostrum is not only the site of the most important gatherings since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, but also one of the most significant historical sites in China.
