A 100 yuan ($13.58) banknote was rejected by many stores in Haikou, Hainan Province, because of a lonely hearts message written on one side of it.

The message was written by a man living in Shanghai. He was traced through his mobile number. The banknote's owner surnamed Wang said she got it from an ATM machine last week, but no store would accept it.

Wang plans to exchange the note at a bank.
