Macaques break out from zoo to elope

A couple of smart, young macaques escaped from a zoo in Jilin, Jilin Province, a month ago and have refused to return to their family after falling in love.

"They escaped when they were being moved south for the winter," said Cong, one of their keepers. "Actually, it looks like a case of elopement."

"In the macaque world all females are wives or concubines of the dominant male and the rest of the males stay single for life," he said.
