CHENGDU -- Six people were killed and three others injured after a truck overturned in Southwest China's Sichuan Province on Monday, according to a local government announcement.

A five-ton truck carrying 16 tons of rocks and 11 people, including eight workers, turned over on a section of road in Shifang City, northern Sichuan, at about 11:45 am Monday.

Six people died at the scene and the injured three have been rushed to hospital. Doctors said they are in stable conditions.

Cargo trucks are not allowed to carry passengers, according to Chinese traffic laws and regulations.
