Qingdao Promotes ‘Green Olympics and High-tech Olympics’By Xu Jing
Updated: 2007-08-11 15:30 ![]() The ‘Good Luck Beijing-2007 Qingdao International Regatta’ started on August 9 at Qingdao Olympic Sailing Center. Athletes from dozens of countries around the world are competing for all of the 11 events of the 9 Olympic sailing classes.
The Qingdao International Regatta is the largest international sailing event in China, and also is the first test event of the 2008 Olympic sailing competition. Last year, the regatta was highly praised by all the domestic and western guests.
All the constructions of main facilities of Qingdao Sailing Center had been completed by the end of June in 2006. The local government adhered to the concepts of ‘Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics and People’s Olympics’, adopted new science and technology into the design and construction, which kept a high level demonstration.
In the Sailing Center, there are 41 wind power lamps. They have been set along the breakwater which has regular wind. Each can save 6750 kilowatt-hour one year.
What’s more, according to the local sunlight and sun radiation, the sun energy is utilized by an advanced solar technology combined with the district heating system. 168 solar enery lamps have been set in Olympic Center. Each can supply 8-hour energy for a 35-watt sodium lamp and save 17,000 kilowatt-hour one year.
Reclaimed water pipeline has been set in Olympic Sailing Center. Reclaimed water from municipal system is used for irrigating, car washing, and toilet flushing.
The Qingdao government’s work was highly praised by the whole world. David. Kallette, the vice presiden of ISAF(International Sailing Foundation), once expressed his appreciation to the Sailing Center. He said, ‘It is really successful from every aspect. I suppose the local citizens will get perfect Olympic legacy after the Olympic Sailing Regatta.’ |
