Shandong online media tour kicks off

Shandong's fourth Online Media Tour starts in Qingdao on August 10. Reporters from more than 40 websites and several officials from Beijing Olympic Game Organizing Committee attended the event.

Wei Zhengxin, deputy director general of Internet Bureau in State Council Information Office, made an opening speech. He highly praised Shandong Provincial Publicity Department's work during these years, and hoped the journalists to know more and report more about Qingdao through this tour.

Then, Liu Baoju, deputy director of the Provincial Publicity Department, warmly welcomed all the guests. He briefly introduced the history and economy of Qingdao, as well as the preparation work for the coming International Regatta.

After the startup ceremony, journalists interviewed Wang Wei, director of the city's Publicity Department. Most of the questions were about the lately development in Qingdao, and how the city will take advantage of the chance of the Olympic Game in 2008.

On the same day, Online Media Tour visited the Olympic Sailing Center in the city, which was regarded as 'the best Olympic venue in Asia' by the ISAF(International Sailing Foundation) officials. All the journalists were deeply surprised by the advanced facilities and wonderful service here.

The tour will stay in Qingdao for 8 days. They will report on the city's practices and achievements on the development of tourism, and the local government’s efforts in promoting the city as a new international sailing center.
