BEIJING -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday called on all members of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to carry forward the revolutionary traditions and "bravely move forward" along the road of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

All CPC members must get prepared for hardships and heighten their sense of serving the people and the sense of thrift, said Hu while presiding over a seminar of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Two researchers, Qi Dexue and Huang Yingxu with the Academy of Military Sciences, were invited to talk about the early revolutionary activities of the CPC.

After listening to the lectures of the researchers, Hu reminded officials to always oppose formalism, bureaucratism, extravagance and various forms of corruption, to keep a sober mind and to keep resolute faith and practical working style.

The revolutionary traditions from the hard times of the Party and nation embody the true nature of the army, and all CPC members should serve the people wholeheartedly and build the country with innovative efforts, the president said.

"Our party started with unprecedented hardships and struggled to develop with even tougher conditions," he said, inspiring all CPC members to carry forward the "glorious revolutionary traditions" while building China into a more modernized country.
