President Hu ends Hong Kong trip

Hong Kong -- Chinese President Hu Jintao ended his three-day Hong Kong visit Sunday and left Hong Kong for Beijing via Shenzhen, a southern Chinese city bordering Hong Kong, where he attended the opening ceremony of the Shenzhen Bay Port, a border crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

Hu, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, arrived in Hong Kong on Friday to attend the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China and the inauguration of the third-term government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

On Sunday, Hu attended a gathering marking the anniversary and the inaugural ceremony.

On Saturday evening, the president attended a welcoming banquet given by the HKSAR government in his honor. He also watched a grand variety show marking the return anniversary.

During his stay in Hong Kong, the president met with Tung Chee-hwa, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People 's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Donald Tsang Yam- kuen, HKSAR chief executive, and Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region.

Hu also met with leaders of the executive, legislative and judicial arms of the HKSAR, representatives of all walks of life, leaders of the central government organizations based in Hong Kong, and senior executives of Hong Kong branches of mainland enterprises.

The president reviewed the Chinese People's Liberation Army garrison in HKSAR, and visited ordinary Hong Kong families during his stay here.

Upon his departure at the border line at the Shenzhen Bay Port, two Hong Kong children presented bouquets to the president and his wife.

The president shook hands with those who saw him off and waved farewell to the crowd.

Among Hu's entourage on the departure were Wang Gang, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee; Sheng Huaren, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC); Tang Jiaxuan, state councilor; Liao Hui, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council; and Liang Guanglie, member of the Central Military Commission and chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.

Among those present at the Shenzhen Bay Port to see President Hu off were HKSAR Chief Executive Donald Tsang and his wife Selina Tsang, Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal Andrew Li Kwok- nang, Chief Secretary for Administration Henry Tang Ying-yen, Financial Secretary Tsang Chun-wah, Secretary for Justice Wong Yan Lung, President of the Legislative Council Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai, and Leung Chun-ying, convenor of the non-official members of the Executive Council.
