QINHUANGDAO, Hebei Province -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Thursday urged all political advisors to better understand President Hu Jintao's recent keynote speech on national development.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the call in meeting with political advisors on a training course held by the CPPCC in Beidaihe of northern Hebei Province.

President Hu on Monday once again stressed the importance of implementing the scientific concept of development, promoting social harmony and building an overall well-off society when addressing a senior course for ministerial officials and provincial heads at the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's Party School.

Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, reminded officials to combine the policy of reform and opening-up with the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

In the keynote speech, Hu emphasized the building of an energy-efficient, environment-friendly society and the improvement of the basic economic system centered on public ownership while "unswervingly" encouraging and maintaining non-public forms.

Jia called on all political advisors to study Hu' speech in real earnest, contribute to social harmony and embrace the upcoming 17th CPC national congress later this year with full enthusiasm in political participation and "outstanding" performance in their work.
