CHENGDU -- Five people died and two were injured when a landslide partly demolished a dormitory building in southwest China on Monday.

Rainstorms in Dazhou City, Sichuan Province, since Wednesday triggered a landslide at about 1 am on Monday in Fuxing Township, Tongchuan District, said a spokesman of the city government.

Rocks crashed into a four-storey building of Tongda Chemicals Co. Ltd. and half of the building collapsed, burying seven people in the debris.

Only two people were rescued and the bodies of the five victims were recovered at 10 am.

The two injured have been hospitalized and the rest of the building has been evacuated, said the source.
