Xi'an pledges to fight domestic violence

Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province, wants to stamp out domestic violence.

The government's plan will be carried out from now on untill the end of 2008, trying to keep the number of cases of family violence below 1.5 per 10,000 households this year and 1.3 cases next year.

Also, a center to take reports of domestic violence will be built in every police station, and a network for help and prevention will be established in all the communities, towns and villages of the city. Legal aid and shelter will also be provided to victims.
