Lawyers in Zhumadian, Henan Province, are advising a farmer to seek compensation from the State after a court in Guangdong Province sentenced him to six months in prison after a theft conviction.

Cao Rongkai, a farmer in Pingyu County, said the wrong sentence had seriously hurt him and his family as he has never been to Guangdong. The court, which is in Dongguan, has promised to change the verdict after it sees evidence that the sentence it gave Cao was incorrect. But the court has already rejected Cao's first petition for compensation.
