China on Tuesday urged the United States to abandon its double standards on human rights and refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang made the remarks in response to the U.S. State Department spokesman's statement on International Human Rights Day, in which the U.S. side criticized China and other countries' human rights records.

Qin said China had made remarkable achievements on human rights protection.

"The achievements are there for all to see,"the spokesman said.

"The United States is not qualified to label itself as a human rights guard," Qin added.

He said that the Chinese government suggested the United States should examine its own human rights problems.
