A delegation of commerce officials, volunteers and journalists Tuesday arrived in Baotou City in North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to promote local brand names.

The event is part of the Brand Promotion Tour sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce.

The delegation is scheduled to visit a number of companies, factories, as well as commercial units.

Inner Mongolia stretches from Northeast China to the North and then to the Northwest, covering an area of 1.18 million square kilometers, or 12 percent of China's land area.

The autonomous region has a population of 23.76 million, with 49 ethnic groups living in the vast grassland.

After years of development, the region has seen the emergence of a series of domestic brands, including dairy products giants Mengniu and Yili, Baotou Iron & Steel Group, and King Deer Cashmere Company. Most of the region¡¯s famous brands are closely related to the region's traditional grassland culture.
