Bu Rui graduated from college seven years ago. Then she decided to start a business making bean curd in her hometown, a small village in Changchun, the capital city of Jilin province in Northeast China.

"It takes courage to start up a business in a rural area for a person who graduated from college, especially for a young woman," Bu said.

As her business developed more and more, Bu expanded her small workshop to a firm that had more than 80 workers in a 4,000-square-meter space in 2011. And she also opened a pig and chicken farm that utilizes scraps from bean curd making to feed the animals. In 2015, her firm earned 4.3 million yuan ($658,330) in revenue.

Last year, Bu created an alliance with 13 businesswomen to better develop the market.
