The recall affects Lamborghini's Murcielago Coupe and Murcielago Roadster models produced from June 13, 2006 to April 14, 2008, said a statement on the website of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ).

The faulty fuel tank may leak in some extreme cases and pose a threat to passengers, the statement said.

The carmaker will check and replace the defective oil tanks for free.

Owners can contact Lamborghini on a hotline number, 010-65313579, or contact the GAQSIQ.

Founded in 1963 by Ferruccio Lamborghini, the supercar maker is now a unit of Volkswagen's luxury Audi brand.
