The industrial output of China's paper and paper product producers grew 5.1 percent from a year ago during the first five months, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said in an online statement.

But the ministry did not give figures for value of the industrial output.

The 5.1-percent growth in the first five months compares to a fall of 0.8 percent in the first four months. It indicated a recovery in the output, as demands picked up after government stimulus measures boosted related sectors.

The ministry said the sector's industrial output rose 7.1 percent from a year ago in May alone.

From January to May, output of machine-made paper and cardboard edged up 3 percent year on year to 34.47 million tons, according to the statement dated Monday.

Among the total, the output of paper products inched up 2 percent to 14.12 million tons.

The output of paper pulp, including raw pulp and recycled pulp, however, went down 15 percent, to 7.11 million tons, during the first five months, and down 5.3 percent in May.

But the fall is easing month on month. The May output of paper pulp rose 3.7 percent from the April figure, and 12.1 percent from that in March.
