More Shenzhen-Guangzhou trains after rail speedup

Thenumber of trains departing daily from Shenzhen for Guangzhou will reach 105, including 59 bullet trains, after the sixth national railway acceleration takes place April 18.

According to a new schedule, the first train will depart Shenzhen at 6:22 a.m. and the last train at 10:46 p.m., and the intervals between trains will be shortened to six minutes during peak hours.

Bullet trains, identified in timetables by the letter D, will cut the travel time between the two cities to 52 minutes.

The prices of a ticket for bullet trains between Guangzhou and Shenzhen have been set at 100 yuan (US$129) for first class, and 80 yuan for second class. The price of a ticket on an ordinary train costs about 70 yuan.

On April 18, Shenzhen will add two daily trains to Xi’an (K446) and Wuchang (K556), and two trains currently running between Shenzhen and Maoming, and Shenzhen and Meizhou, will be halted. Also on Wednesday, the K8 train currently running between Shenzhen to Hankou will run between Guangzhou and Wuchang.

Tickets for the country’s new bullet trains went on sale on April 14.

On April 18, 280 bullet trains, which can travel at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour, will be put into operation between the country’s major cities. A total of 514 such trains will be in use by the end of this year.
