Valentine's Day is qing ren jie in Chinese (lover's festival). It's a day to celebrate love and exchange vows of hai shi shan meng (sea oath, mountain pledge), expressing unchanging fidelity until hai ku shi lan (sea dries, rock crumbles) and di lao tian huang (earth ages, heaven desolate), their love will be tian chang di jiu (heaven everlasting, earth enduring).

Such a couple might not be clinging to each other physically as ru jiao si qi (like glue, as lacquer), but spiritually the pair must be qin mi wu jian (dear and close without space, meaning intimate without discord), qin se he xie (qin and se in harmony, qin and se being two pairing Chinese musical instruments). In a word, a perfect couple are tian zao di she (heaven made, earth created) or tian zuo zhi he (heaven-made match).
