SHENZHEN: Macao will increase the city's attraction to the world as a tourist destination by combining its resources with those of Shenzhen, according to a senior official.

The target is to be achieved through one of the three agreements signed between the Shenzhen and Macao governments Friday to enhance the bilateral cooperation in culture, tourism and education.

"We will jointly launch a Shenzhen-Macao tourism brand and promote and attend global exhibitions and conferences together in the future. We will design the tourism routes to take full advantage of the regional resources and boost our common interests," said Chui Sai On, secretary for social affairs and culture of Macao, at a press conference shortly after the signing ceremony.

Under long-term arrangements, both sides will exchange professionals and hold regular meetings to increase the common brand value and facilitate closer communication, he added.

Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau-wah, who led the first government delegation to visit Shenzhen, said the government will accelerate the diversification of the economy while reinforcing the existing industrial advantages.

Shenzhen Mayor Xu Zongheng said the government has created conditions to speed up the economic penetration between Macao and Shenzhen, and he encouraged the companies to invest in Macao.
