There were 101 merger and acquisition deals accomplished in September with the value of 92 released totaling $10.2 billion, an increase of 133.4 percent month-on-month, said Zero2IPO Research Center on Wednesday.

The largest deal was Shuanghui International Holdings Ltd purchase of Smithfield Foods Inc for $7.1 billion.

The most popular sectors were energy and resources, biotechnology, healthcare and real estate.

The report also said the new move by the China Securities Regulatory Commission on M&As will make activities in energy and resources, and healthcare sectors more active.

CSRC said last month that it would be working to streamline the administrative approval process for M&As of listed companies by revising related rules, canceling a number of approval items and applying differentiated review procedures to different companies.
