He Guoqiang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks during a visit to an educational exhibition on anti-corruption achievements of the banking sector.

The banking sector remains a hotbed for corruption and still faces severe challenges in fighting against corruption and building a clean environment, he said.

The banking sector shoulders great responsibilities in expanding credit loans and providing support to the construction of investment projects amid the country's drive to implement stimulus packages aimed at boosting domestic demand and ensuring the economy grows at a stable and relatively fast rate, he said.

Financial institutions of the banking sector should unswervingly put emphasis on anti-corruption work and violators of laws and regulations should be seriously punished, he said.
