China's trade down in early 2009

China's foreign trade reached $266.77 billion in the first two months this year, down 27.2 percent from a year ago, according to the General Administration of Customs.

Customs said exports decreased 21.1 percent year-on-year to $155.33 billion while imports dropped 34.2 percent to $111.44 billion in this period. Trade surplus increased 59.6 percent year-on-year to $43.89 billion.

In a report released last week, the country's top planner National Development and Reform Commission expected the country's trade volume to increase 8 percent this year.
