The venture capital, private equity funds and strategic investors invested a total of 4.97 billion ($726.75 million) in 20 companies in China in February, down 63 percent year-on-year, according to the report from consulting firm Eternal Zenith Capital.

The findings of the report showed no new funds were set up in February as the first quarter was usually a quiet season for investment activities when companies took a break in capital raising.

In February 2009, there were 21 merger and acquisition transactions amounting to a total of 16.74 billion yuan, down 12.15 percent from the previous month, according to the report.

The report also said three Chinese companies went public in Hong Kong in February, raising a combined 544 million yuan.
