China Jan-Apr power output up 14.1%

China's major power plants produced 1.09 trillion kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity during the January to April period, up 14.1 percent year-on-year, the China Electricity Council said.

Of the total, coal-fired power plants produced 949.8 billion kWh of electricity, a rise of 13 percent year-on-year; hydropower stations produced 112.5 billion kWh, up 16.5 percent; and nuclear power stations produced 22.4 billion kWh, an increase of 40.7 percent.

Power consumption stood at 1.1 trillion kWh during the first four months to April, up 12.7 percent, the council said.

Grid operators sold a combined 903.13 billion kWh of electricity in the first four months, an increase of 14.94 percent from a year earlier, it said.

China added 19.17 million kilowatts of installed capacity during the January to April, it noted.
