"Mobile Linux will enhance the development of China's mobile communications industry," said Yang Zemin, President of the China Academy of Telecommunications Research (CATR), at the Linux Mobile Communications Conference in Beijing today.

The conference was organized by the CATR and the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) with the support of Norway-based Trolltech, which develops leading technologies for Linux on desktop and mobile devices.

More than ten global industry players, including Wind River, MontaVista Software, Sun Microsystems, Arphic and Flander attended the conference, and showcased their latest products for Linux-based mobile technology.

The one-day conference brought together over 200 key stakeholders from China and abroad, including officials, academics, company executives and industry analysts.

At the meeting, they discussed the development direction for Linux mobile communications and the importance of mobile Linux platform for the global mobile commutations market.

"Two years ago, we helped CATR by holding this conference introducing the leading mobile Linux technology to China," said Benoit Schillings, Trolltech's CTO, "and today we are planning to introduce significant advances in mobile Linux technology applications and their acceptance throughout China and Asia, and we will move forward in cooperating with Chinese manufacturers."

Trolltech's Qtopia technology is the most widely-used development environment and user interface for Linux-based products. Today, more than 90 vendors are designing, building or shipping devices built with Qtopia and related Trolltech software for embedded Linux.

In August 2006, Trolltech launched the Qtopia Greenphone, the first open Linux mobile device for application developers. In November of the same year, the Qtopia Greensuite was announced to reduce manufacturers'time to market and address the technology fragmentation issues with the Linux mobile phone market.

At present, Trolltech has cooperated with more than 20 major Chinese mobile communications manufactures, including ZTE, Datang Communications, and Lenovo. The Beijing branch of Trolltech was set up in May of 2007.
