China's wealthiest village

China's wealthiest village, Huaxi, reported record sales revenue of more than 40 billion yuan last year.

Wu Xie'en, head of the village, said the revenue jumped about 30 percent in 2006 due to the development of metallurgical and textile industries.

The village is expected to generate 50 billion yuan in sales revenue by 2010.

The village, in Jiangsu Province, was founded in 1961 and has a population of 35,000.

It has developed rapidly and is widely known as the No 1 village in China.
