German president to make five-day state visit to China
At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will make a state visit to China starting on Tuesday. It will mark the first visit to China by a German president after nearly eight years.
During the visit, Xi will hold talks with Steinmeier, while Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, will meet with him separately, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Friday.
The five-day trip will also take the German president to East China's Anhui province.
Mao said that China is ready to work with Germany to use the visit as an opportunity to strengthen mutual trust, deepen cooperation and pursue innovation together, so as to advance bilateral ties, promote the steady and sustained development of China-European Union relations, and inject more positive energy into the world.
