Fire at military base kills 4, injures dozens
Flames that killed four Canadian soldiers and left 19 people in critical condition began with a smoldering grass fire that quickly grew in an Alberta base's training area where personnel were carrying out exercises, officials said on Sunday. Officials said 39 people were in hospital as a result of the fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, which Prime Minister Mark Carney described as one of the worst peacetime tragedies for Canada's military on home soil. Major General Wade Rutland told reporters at a news conference that the spread of the fire was an "uncommon, rapid" event in which the flames advanced 1 kilometer in 30 to 60 seconds.

80 dead in drone strike near market: Medics
A drone strike near a market in southern Sudan killed 80 people, mostly commuters catching trucks home, a medical source and a witness told Agence France-Presse on Monday. The strike in the town of Al-Dibab in West Kordofan state on Sunday evening left "50 bodies who I helped bury, one of them my own brother Mohamed", Ahmed Abakar Wadi told AFP, using a satellite internet connection to circumvent a communications blackout. He said 47 others were transported to the nearest town, Al-Mujlad, where 30 of them died from injuries, a medical source told AFP.
