Wang Donghua: The Global South needs its own voice

Wang Donghua, vice president of the China Public Diplomacy Association and former consul general of China in San Francisco, highlighted that despite the Global South driving the majority of global economic growth, its international voice remains significantly behind its economic strength.

He urged Global South nations to develop independent narratives, utilize AI to accurately portray themselves, and advocate for fair global AI governance to ensure all countries can share in the technological benefits.

Wang made these remarks at the academic conference "Exchanging, Connecting, and Co-creating: Conference on Shaping New Narratives for International Communication in the AI Age" and the 2026 Annual Meeting of the Belt and Road Cultural Communication Research Center of the China Federation of Radio and Television Associations, held at Renmin University of China on October 17.
