Nation will safeguard maritime sovereignty
China will take resolute and effective measures to deter actions that disrupt peace and stability in the South China Sea, a Ministry of National Defense spokesman said on Friday. Senior Colonel Chen Xi said China has indisputable sovereignty over Huangyan Island and the Nansha Islands, including Zhongye Island, Xianbin Reef and Ren'ai Reef, and their adjacent waters. Chen rejected Philippine claims regarding Chinese naval and coast guard vessels operating in the area, saying China's actions to safeguard its sovereignty and maritime rights are legitimate and professional. He criticized Manila for provocative actions, spreading false narratives and seeking external support, warning that such moves threaten regional stability.
