Yuan strengthens against greenback
The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 49 pips to 6.7249 against the US dollar on Wednesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day. The central parity rate of the yuan against the US dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.
Safety barrier along railways strengthened
Amid the country's push to better safeguard conditions along railway lines, Chinese rail operators are launching new moves to better protect the system. Taiyuan High-speed Railway Engineering Section of China Railway Taiyuan Group sent staffers to check perimeters within a 500-meter range on both sides of railway lines within its jurisdiction, cleaning up debris and flora that might present hidden hazards. Staffers also used drones to check blind spots to determine potential risks. The moves help ensure a safer environment for the Xiong'an-Xinzhou HSR.
