Senior Guangdong legislator being probed
Zhang Shuofu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, is under investigation for suspected serious violations of Communist Party of China discipline and national laws, the country's top anti-graft authorities announced on Thursday. Zhang, 61, joined the CPC in 1984 and began his career in 1988. A native of Central China's Hunan province, he held several senior posts there before serving as a provincial Party standing committee member and discipline inspection chief in Yunnan and Beijing. In 2018, he became a member of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee's standing committee and Party chief of Guangzhou. He was appointed to his current post in 2022.
Plan to enhance rehab, nursing care unveiled
China, on Thursday, unveiled a plan to expand and improve medical rehabilitation and nursing care services, with measures to increase service resources, strengthen professional training and promote the use of artificial intelligence. Under an implementation plan issued by the National Health Commission and the National Development and Reform Commission, cities with large populations, a rapidly aging population and growing demand for rehabilitation and nursing care services are expected to have at least one public rehabilitation hospital and one public nursing care facility by 2030. The plan also aims to provide about 0.48 rehabilitation and nursing care beds per 1,000 people, as well as 0.7 rehabilitation physicians and 1.6 rehabilitation therapists per 10,000 people, by 2030.
Ex-senior inspector sentenced for bribery
Xu Chuanzhi, a former deputy ministerial-level inspector with the inspection team of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Thursday for bribery-related crimes, the Ningbo Intermediate People's Court in Zhejiang province said. Xu was sentenced to 10 years and six months for accepting bribes and five years for using his influence to accept bribes. The sentences were combined, with Xu also fined 2.5 million yuan ($373,000). From 2001 to 2025, Xu accepted bribes totaling more than 36.59 million yuan in exchange for helping with project contracting, case handling and job adjustments. He was placed under investigation in October 2025 and expelled from the Party in January this year.
