Chinese and Vietnamese youth honor the fallen at Xiangjiang
"For three years, drink no water from the Xiangjiang River; for 10 years, eat no fish from it."
These words capture the sorrow left by the Xiangjiang Campaign, the bloodiest battle of the Long March. Wounded and captured, Chen Shuxiang reached into his abdominal wound and severed his own intestines, choosing death rather than surrender. At Jiuhai Well, unnamed Red Army soldiers aged just 15 to 25 lost their lives. By the river, a lollipop left in tribute to the fallen still touches hearts today. Each story brings their sacrifice closer to a new generation. More than 90 years later, Chinese and Vietnamese youth traveled together to the Xiangjiang River in Guangxi. Through their shared journey, they honored the heroes, carried the spirit of the Long March forward and opened a new chapter in friendship between the two countries' young people.
