Documentary filmmaker shares stories of kindness

During World War II, a 7-year-old Chinese boy gave his birthday egg to an injured American airman after the Doolittle Raid. In return, the airman gave him a penny — a coin the boy kept into old age.

In Wuhan, American documentary filmmaker George Retelas, whose grandfather served in the US Navy during the war, shared this story. Such simple acts of kindness, he said, are things we can all do for one another. After several visits to China, he said the real gift he had received was "the people I met".
