6 dead in landslides following typhoon

The death toll rose to six on Tuesday after heavy rain from a large typhoon battered the Kanto region in eastern Japan and triggered landslides and flooding a day earlier, local media reported. Among the deaths, five were confirmed in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, including a man in his 50s who died after falling into a bamboo grove while operating heavy machinery to clear mud and debris from a landslide. The others were in their 70s and 80s, according to Kyodo News. Another death was confirmed in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, also near Tokyo, where a woman in her 60s died on Monday after a landslide struck her home and sent mud pouring into the house. Typhoon Dujuan, which approached Japan's eastern Pacific coast on Monday and is now moving away, brought record rainfall to the Kanto region and the Izu Islands, triggering a series of landslides and river flooding.

Teen held for injuring 11 in school shooting

A teenage boy has been arrested and taken into custody after at least 11 people were injured in a shooting outside of a high school in Turkiye's western province of Manisa on Tuesday morning, Justice Minister Akin Gurlek said. The incident occurred in front of Inci Uzmez Anatolian Technical High School in the Turgutlu district around 8 am, leaving 11 students injured, two of them seriously. The teenage suspect opened fire indiscriminately outside the school building, with the motive remaining unclear. Law enforcement and medical personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene, and a comprehensive investigation was launched, Turkiye's Ministry of National Education said in a statement. Three inspectors from the ministry were also dispatched to Manisa Province following the shooting, the statement said.
