That is the quiet strength of folk heritage. It does not always survive through grand ceremonies or famous monuments. Sometimes it survives because a community refuses to let a familiar place disappear.
In Qiangxia, generations of villagers have helped keep an old temple standing. In doing so, they have also kept alive a set of values associated with Guan Gong — loyalty, righteousness, benevolence and courage.
A village may be small. Its memory does not have to be.
