Chinese mainland shares close higher on Monday
Chinese mainland stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.97 percent to 3,949.91 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.65 percent higher at 13,730.02 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by these two indices stood at around 2.03 trillion yuan ($300.8 billion), down from 2.08 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
The market mood was boosted by global demand for artificial intelligence technology and positive signals from trade talks over the weekend between Chinese and US officials.
Medical services, cellular immunotherapy and recombinant protein stocks were among the top gainers, while precious metals and photolithography equipment shares led the declines.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.8 percent to close at 3,399.59 points. The STAR Composite Index, which reflects the performance of stocks on China's sci-tech innovation board, closed 0.45 percent higher at 1,957.02 points.
