China remains EAC's largest trading partner

China remained the largest individual trading partner of the East African Community (EAC) in the second quarter of 2026, as the region's total trade rose 37 percent year-on-year to $52.3 billion. According to the EAC Quarterly Statistics Bulletin released on Wednesday, EAC exports to China nearly doubled from $5.7 billion in the second quarter of 2025 to $10.7 billion in the second quarter of 2026, largely driven by mineral commodities and other raw materials. Imports from China also increased to $7.1 billion from $4.7 billion a year earlier, the bulletin showed.

Stringent work to aid running of trains

Amid the country's drive to strengthen rail safety in coal transport, rail operators have tightened operations of heavy-duty trains running along the key Datong-Qinhuangdao rail artery. Staffers at Yangyuan Station in Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, were told to enhance checks on rail equipment to ensure the smooth operations of trains using the route, which transports some 350 million metric tons of coal each year. The station in Yangyuan county called on its employees to strictly implement various rules and regulations, helping ensure the safe and smooth operation of heavy-duty trains.
